Steps & Staircases in Maple Ridge

Custom steps and staircases using paver systems, natural stone, or concrete. Built to code with consistent dimensions. Engineered for Maple Ridge's conditions, where maple Ridge receives 1,900 to 2,100 mm of annual rainfall, among the highest in the Lower Mainland, because of the rain shadow (or lack thereof) from Golden Ears.

Steps & Staircases Built for Maple Ridge's Conditions

Steps and staircases are where hardscaping meets safety engineering. Every set of steps must have consistent riser heights, adequate tread depths, proper drainage, and nonslip surfaces. In the Fraser Valley, where rain and frost create slippery conditions for months at a time, steps also need to be designed for traction and rapid drainage to prevent ice accumulation.

A steps & Staircases project in Maple Ridge has to handle conditions most contractors underestimate. Silver Valley, Cottonwood, and Whonnock are glacial till with frequent rock shelves and occasional granite outcrops. Albion, Hammond, and the Fraser River flats are silty alluvium with a seasonal high water table. Thornhill and Websters Corners are mixed rural soils that vary property to property. Maple Ridge receives 1,900 to 2,100 mm of annual rainfall, among the highest in the Lower Mainland, because of the rain shadow (or lack thereof) from Golden Ears. Winter runoff from the mountains is significant. Upland neighborhoods see more freeze thaw cycles than the Fraser lowlands. Trueform engineers every steps & Staircases project for the actual ground under your property and the actual weather it will see, not a generic Lower Mainland spec.

The City of Maple Ridge requires a building permit for retaining walls over 1.2 metres. Many Silver Valley and hillside lots are inside development permit areas with additional requirements. Riparian Areas Protection Regulation (RAPR) setbacks from salmon bearing creeks are enforced strictly, and excavation inside setback is usually prohibited. We verify all setbacks before quoting. We complete steps & Staircases projects across all of Maple Ridge, including Silver Valley, Albion, Hammond, Cottonwood, Whonnock, Websters Corners, Ruskin, Thornhill, East Maple Ridge, Haney, West Maple Ridge, Yennadon. Every quote starts with a free onsite consultation so we can match the design to your lot, your budget, and the permit timeline that applies to your address.

Trueform Tips

In Silver Valley, check RAPR setbacks before designing the project, because it can dictate where structures can go. In Albion and Hammond, never skip drainage. On Whonnock and Websters Corners acreages, scope the design around actual equipment loads and existing agricultural uses.

Steps & Staircases Cost in Maple Ridge

Step and staircase costs depend heavily on the number of steps, material selection, and integration with retaining walls or other structures. Individual paver block steps typically cost $150 to $350 per step. Full natural stone staircases range from $3,000 to $15,000. Concrete staircases with formed walls range from $2,500 to $10,000. We include step lighting costs in our estimates when applicable. In Maple Ridge specifically, the cost driver to watch is the soil and access combination. Silver Valley Creekside Patio & Stone Steps

Silver Valley, Maple Ridge

A Silver Valley lot with a creek along one boundary and a 1.8 metre grade drop required careful design. We mapped the RAPR setback line, built the patio (42 square metres of Techo-Bloc Blu 60 pavers) entirely outside the setback, installed a natural granite tread staircase along the grade drop, and used a permeable base system to minimize runoff into the creek. A native plant buffer along the setback edge finished the project.

What Maple Ridge Homeowners Say

The creek setback was confusing and our first contractor wanted to ignore it. Trueform designed the patio to honor the setback and we never had a problem with the city inspector.

Tanya F.

Silver Valley, Maple Ridge

We needed a driveway that would handle our horse trailer year round. Trueform spec'd thicker pavers and a deeper base. Five years in, zero ruts.
